Clan Nexus came into being on 25th of March, 1998. The founding members were already a close-knit team of friends, all avid gamers, who had been frequenting Quake II servers for weeks. Since that early tentative alliance, the forming of a Clan was the next logical step.

Clan Nexus derived its name from the MUD "Nexus; Gateway Between Worlds", a Fantasy MUD maintained by one of the founding members. Although never opened to the public, it became a frequent place to communicate between friends, even while playing Quake.

Clan Nexus members needed a way to easily distinguish themselves from other players, and so it was decided that the Lego Man model would become the official form of Clan Members. Some experimentation with skins and a set of skin guidelines were defined so that Clan Members could make their own custom skin, while keeping with the Clan look.

Clan Nexus members are all current employees, or have at some stage been employees, of Educational Institutes, primarily Universities located in Perth, Western Australia. Clan Members often turn to the "relaxing" powers of a FragFest to help relieve stress after a hard days work.
